Christmas with a Cop

CWACThe Christmas with a Cop program was created to help families who may need a little assistance in helping to brighten their holiday season. Additionally, the program helps to strengthen relationships between the Community and local law enforcement. Fairlawn is a part of a larger organization, Summit County Christmas with a Cop, that includes officers from Akron PD, Bath PD, Akron Children’s Hospital PD, Copley PD, Richfield PD, Summa PD, Summit County SO, and the University of Akron PD.

Each year, with help from the local school districts, a group of deserving children is selected and escorted by police officers and department personnel to shop for gifts for themselves and family members.

On the morning of 12/04/21, the children participating in this holiday event will be picked up at their residence by a police officer and driven in a police cruiser to the Fairlawn Community Center. Once there, children and police officers from all over Summit County will enjoy breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus before leaving for a shopping spree. After breakfast, the children will be escorted, in parade fashion, to the Fairlawn Wal-Mart where they will each receive a $150 gift card. Each child will then get to shop with "their" cop for gifts for themselves and their family. The money for the gift cards is raised by local law enforcement officers, dispatchers and civilian employees who begin selling raffle tickets in October of each year. This event, as well as our summer event “Carnival with a Cop,” is funded by corporate sponsors and fundraisers that officers participate in throughout the year.
